One Layer Wonders | Designer Creative Challenge

Jan from handcrafthobby here with you today. I'm so happy to be back on the Craftin Desert Divas blog sharing with you how I created multiple one layer cards using masking with masking paper and stencils.

I used the Holiday Fairies stamp as the main image for all cards. I used both the Magic Castle and Hill Scene 2 stencils to create a background, hills, and puffy clouds. As for the frame, I love to use Torn Paper dies for decorative edges. To make each card look a bit different, I used various ink colors, as well as different sentiments from Snow Day and Santa's Helpers stamp sets.

One layer cards can be very complex and require multiple maskings to layer objects on top of each other. Or it can be easy and achievable for mass production. I'm sharing with you a short video tutorial of how I created these one layer cards.

Here are some screenshots of the processing while I created them:

I positioned both the Magic Castle stencil and Hill Scene 2 stencil onto the desired area. Secure the card panel to the surface as well as the stencils on top of the card tock to make sure the stencils will not shift when inking.

Flip the stencil for multiple uses as positive and negative areas.

When changing the ink color, always clean the stencil with damp cloth or wet wipe so the previous ink will not be transferred to your next project.

Here are all the finished 5 cards. They're the same design but different looks.

One layer cards are my favorite type of card to create. I love fussy cutting paper and masking. I hope you enjoy the video and give it a try. Who knows... you might love it too!

Leafy Background is a 4.5” x 6.5” clear background stamp with a beautiful leaf pattern that can be used year-round! Color it in, heat emboss it, use watercolor over the top - there are SO many options!

Both Hill Scene stencils are fantastic for creating borders, paths, clouds and any background you can dream up! They're so versatile and work beautifully with Distress Oxide inks, too (available in our shop).

The Inside Scalloped Oval Dies are PERFECT for your shaker cards! The double-stitching details are gorgeous and make your cards look polished right out of the die cutter. The borders are nice and thick, making it a go-to for your shaker cards!

The Mushroom Border Die is must-have for anyone's die-cutting toolkit! There are so many little images in one border that can be used together our August stamps. Use them as embellishments on your cards, put them in a shaker, or add them into a background scene.
