I started by gathering my supplies and playing around with layout a bit. Take a look at the layout shown below and compare against the finished card. The bones are there but morphed a bit in the doing.
I started out by lightly brushing Peeled Paint and Salty Ocean on the background. I didn't worry about masking the tree since the colors are light enough that the Vintage Photo brown would cover up any oopsies.
I sponged up the using Evergreen Bough and Vintage Photo. I then went back in with colored pencils to add details. I'm still learning about my colored pencils and was surprised to discover how easy to was to change the appearance/color of the strokes just by pressing harder or lighter. Who knew?!
I had originally planned to use the as is but decided it would be a bit busy given the other elements in the scene so instead I colored up the flowers using Copics then snipped them off and used them as accents behind the characters and grass. I also decided to place the sentiment on a sandwich board type label created using . Don't you love that gingham?!
